Big and Rich Split?!
They may not exactly be small and poor, but they ain’t Big & Rich anymore… at least according to my sources in Music City. Could it be that Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich have hung up those wild hats? Seems absurd – given the revolutionary effect their union has had on country music, and on music at large. Plus: don’t these guys have a new single and an album about to be released? But if it’s true – if the Muzic Mafia Godfathers are splitting, I don’t think it happened in a vacuum. I’d heard reports of the duo’s ‘dischord’ for the past few months. Separate buses, separate party agendas – did it all just take it toll? I asked the dynamic duo point blank recently if they were getting along, and the heartbeat they took to respond told me all was not rosy – but still, they weren’t spilling. For the record, I hope my sources are mistaken. I hope Kenny and John will live up to their promise to make music together for decades to come. But if they don’t – hey – I know a multi-platinum group that just lost a lead singer, and come to think of it, doesn’t John know all the words?
Tomorrow will see the Canadian release of Jack Ingram’s new CD. LOVE this guy – and I don’t mean that in a Jack Ingram “Love You” kind of way. No doubt Brad Paisley’s tour mate is a hottie – but he’s been bringing to mind another country superstar these days. When I asked Jack how many people tell him he looks like Keith Urban, he told me, “I’ve been accused of that – a LOT.” Seems that, much to his chagrin, people think he’s cultivating the dirty haired, wrinkled t-shirt thing on purpose. So he’s blonde and hot? Believe me, there’s room on the red carpet for more than one of those, in my book.
And that’s just where I’ll be tonight, on the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards. Where else can you see Stone Cold Steve Austin and Jon Bon Jovi share the same stage? Come to think of it, where else would you want to? I’ll be chatting with the stars as they make their way in – and sitting down for a one-on-one with Jon Bon Jovi this week as well. O-M-G! Keep you posted.
I’m Elissa Lansdell, and this has been the Music Row Need To Know for Monday, April 16th. Scoop ya later!
